An Italian man has been arrested over the murder of a Nigerian prostitute after police searching her apartment found a short story he wrote with close similarities to the killing.

Police in the northern Italian city of Turin discovered the nine-page story entitled "The Rose and the Lion" among the belongings of Anthonia Egbuna, whose body was fished out of the river Po in February. Anthonia had been stabbed to death.
Police took some months to identify the body and then visited Egbuna's apartment last month.

Officers of Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have apprehended a 26-year old man in connection with 8.5kg of methamphetamine concealed inside metal pipes, the agency said on Tuesday [Aug 21].

The suspect, Afunaya Thaddeus Izunna, who sells phone accessories at Ikeja, Lagos, was found at the weekend to be in possession of the drug during the screening of passengers on Ethiopian airline flight to New Delhi, India.

A maternity where newborn babies are sold to wealthy couples has been discovered in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The police in collaboration with local vigilance group recently raided the storey building located in Oduke, a sparsely populated area of Okwe community in the metropolis.
Three pregnant women and a suspected member of the syndicate were apprehended during the raid.
The Delta State Police Command spokesman, DSP Charles Muka, who confirmed the arrest, did not give further details.
Muka said: “We have three pregnant women and an advanced woman in our custody, they are at the Area Command.”
He added that the matter was still under investigation.

Months after a baby was born in Lagos with a Holy Quran in his hand, another miracle baby has again been born in Lagos. This time, the baby boy was born on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.
According to reports, the boy was born on the 29th day of Ramadan at Sekinah Hospital in Ketu. The birth was said to have been done through a caesarean section. Two days after his birth, the Arabic inscription of Allah was reportedly noticed on the left ear of the child by a family friend of his parents who came to visit them.

The mother and baby are said to be in good conditions.

Some Nollywood's heavyweights have been nominated into different categories for this year's African Film Festival & Academy Awards (ZAFAA). The nomination ceremony was held yesterday in Lagos.

Nollywood's stakeholders converged at Ojez Restaurant located inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos for the nomination. NIGERIAN STUDENT FACING LIFE IMPRISONMENT OVER RACISM ATTACK ON HIS PERSONALITY

African Outlook gathered that the Nigerian identified as Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi and one of his friends were physically attacked in front of his apartment by four Ukrainian young men and two women who pulled them to the ground while hurling racist slurs on them.
According to eye witness account, Sunkanmi was said to have managed to get up and defended himself against the assailants with a glass from a broken bottle.
"It was while he was defending himself that police arrived at the scene and the Nigerian was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder of five people" a Nigerian embassy staff who has knowledge of the case told African Outlook, adding that the victim thus became an accused in a case which has become a celebrated case in Ukraine.

HEAVILY ARMED MEN INVADE PRISON IN EDO STATE TO FREE PRISONERS

 

Heavily armed men on Sunday invaded the Oko Minimum Prison in Edo state, freeing 12 inmates.
The gunmen attacked the prison gate and overpowered the prison Arms Squard with explosives, which led to the escape of 12 prisoners.
Eye witnesses said the gunmen arrived the prison in a Toyota Coaster.
According to a resident of Oko community, Edokpayi, the suddenness of the attack and the noise of the explosion caused pandemium among the people living in and around the prison.
“The entire neighbourhood of the prison was woken up by heavy shootings and explosions which occurred at the early hours of today forcing many families to abandon their homes,” he said.

Prison authorities said Orji died Friday morning and the cause of death is unknown; but an autopsy is being performed.
